About Osteopathy

The practice of Osteopathy in Australia is governed by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) whom requires a minimum of 5 years full time training. During this time at university osteopathic practitioners learn about human anatomy, physiology and pathology. Osteopaths are trained in the diagnosis, safe treatment and management of patients. Osteopaths are also trained to examine and refer to an appropriate medical practitioner when indicated as there can be circumstances where a specific illness can present as musculoskeletal pain.

What should I expect during my consultation?

Your Osteopath will go through a thorough case history to not only help narrow down a diagnosis but to get an understanding of your overall health
Your Osteopath will then need to do a physical assessment which may consist of orthopedic testing, assessing ranges of movement, restrictions and any structural/functional imbalances that may exist in the body’s framework. Your Osteopath will then use a wide range of hands on techniques that may consist of but are not limited to soft tissue techniques, articulation, stretching, manipulation and dry needling to help treat the dysfunctions found during the assessment. After your treatment your Osteopath may provide you with advice on posture, working/lifting techniques, exercise and stretches.
